The Letterman 7/29

I forgot to put this up cuz I’ve been super busy but on July 29th the kid Phil Ade had a release performcance for his Letterman project at Commonwealth DC that we attended. He performed some of the new stuff and some stuff off of JV. He’s grown lyrically but his presence is fillin in. I had Phil perform at my Bday party I have on the waterfront every year and he rocked it but the crowd was a little older so he couldnt GO IN as he probably wouldve wanted to but he’s growin into his own. So S/O to the kid. Here’s some footage of the night

Peep the style son, we done that

This is the sh!t right now in the DMV, Bounce Beats and Beatin’ Ya Feet. We find it interesting cuz we was doing the same dances to different music. They’ve added their own twist and as always put that DC stamp on it. DMV lives on the 10% rule. We make errything we touch 10% better by adding our DC twist. Check it.

The more it changes, the more it stays the same

Part of my childhood was spent near the Adams Morgan area. Its the “bohemian” section of Northwest DC and home to a long line of bars and ethnic restaurants, from Ethiopian, Spanish, Jamaican, French, Irish and even a coupld all night Pizza Slice joints. The coolest part of AM was that it had these sneaker stores that had all the fresh new stuff and classic stuff in colors you didnt see anywhere else. The shoes were in plastic and they always had your size or could get it. Even Mayor Adrian Fenty’s parents had a store called Fleet Feet that had dope kicks.

You may be asking yourself WTF all this have to do with the tea in china? Well its home to 2 shops we frequent, whether its to shop or just pop in see whats goin on or what just dropped. I’m talking about Stussy, Commonwealth . The more this neighborhood changes (re: gentrification) its stays the same cuz you can still get a sloppy slice after boozin all nite and dope kicks and gear.

Under the Influence

OK, so yes im a hip hop head and everybody knows that, from mom dukes to my job i wear a suit to everyday. I say this to say that I F*kkin love hip hop right. When i was younger i dressed like Run DMC, I dressed like LL Cool J, yes Im guilty of Idolitry of Rappers lol but here I am at the barbershop shocked that this kid (bout 20) just went to Kid Cudi’s Myspace page to show the barber the haircut he wants. I mean for real? Im feelin KC’s music and I know hes down with GOOD Music and hes Yeezy’s protege http://thevintageskeleton.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/kidcudi-01-big.jpgand all that but he hasnt really done anything for me to be like “Yeah I wanna be that dude”.
By the time I was really feelin MJ it was when he had the glitter glove and he had blown all the other artists away. I was into Beastie Boys off the break cuz of the relationship to Def Jam and Run DMC but I didnt wanna be them, I was down with them by association to other acts I really dug.
I’m saying all this because originality is dead! No one is trying to be an individual, yes i was a DMC clone but i would add my twist, if you saw me you wouldnt say that cat wants to be DMC you would have said he likes RUN DMC. Stop following trends, create your own and embrace individuality.
